Nigeria Customs Launches Digital Currency Declaration System at Abuja Airport

In a major step toward modernizing border operations, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has successfully implemented Electronic Currency Declaration Forms (E-CDF) at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The digital system, which began pilot operations on April 9, 2025, has processed 69 currency declarations in its first phase, according to Customs spokesperson Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada.

Key Results from Pilot Phase

  • Outbound Declarations (51%): $1,200,281.22
  • Inbound Declarations (18%): $177,786.88

“The e-CDF system enhances transparency and strengthens our anti-money laundering efforts,” Maiwada stated. “It provides real-time data for better intelligence sharing across agencies.”

Next Steps for Nationwide Rollout

Following the Abuja success, NCS plans to:

  1. Expand the system to other international airports
  2. Implement at land border crossings
  3. Integrate with international anti-terrorism financing protocols

The digital forms replace paper declarations, reducing processing time while improving accuracy in tracking cross-border currency movements.

Bolbuk News confirms the system aligns with global financial security standards and will be fully operational nationwide by Q3 2025.
