The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has mandated the immediate rollout of a unified joint screening system across all Nigerian airports to eliminate operational inefficiencies and curb touting activities.
The directive was announced by Air Commodore Ahmad Madawaki, representing the National Security Adviser, during an aviation security symposium in Lagos titled ‘The Fundamentality of Security in Achieving the Safe Skies Goals.’
Key Reforms Announced
- Single-Point Screening System: To replace multiple checks that cause passenger delays
- New Security Framework: Threat assessment protocol for all airports and airstrips underway
- Strict Compliance: Alignment with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards
“The current fragmented screening process creates unnecessary bottlenecks,” Madawaki stated. “This unified approach will streamline operations while maintaining rigorous security standards.”
Enhanced Security Measures
The ONSA emphasized:
✓ Regular staff training on updated security protocols
✓ Installation of advanced tracking systems
✓ Improved data management for passenger screening
✓ Increased vigilance by security and drug enforcement agencies
“Aviation security isn’t just about protocols – it’s the invisible shield protecting every traveler,” Madawaki added, urging stakeholders to prioritize coordinated efforts.
Industry-Wide Implementation
The new system requires collaboration between:
- Airport authorities
