FAAN Reopens Enugu International Airport Runway Ahead of Schedule

Enugu, Nigeria – The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the reopening of Akanu Ibiam International Airport’s runway for flight operations starting Monday, April 28, 2025, following the successful completion of emergency repairs.

The announcement was made by Mrs. Obiageli Orah, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, in a statement released over the weekend.

Swift Repairs Complete Ahead of Deadline

The runway was temporarily closed on April 18, 2025, after a sudden rupture was discovered on its asphalt surface, posing potential safety risks. FAAN had initially projected that repairs would last until May 6, 2025, but engineers working on the project completed the rehabilitation ahead of schedule.

FAAN Apologizes for Inconvenience, Prioritizes Safety

In the statement, FAAN expressed gratitude to passengers, airlines, and other stakeholders for their patience during the temporary closure.

“The Authority sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience caused but assures the public that all decisions were made with safety as the top priority,” the statement read.

With the runway now certified safe for operations, flight activities are set to resume fully today Monday April 28 2025.
